Rowing Together for Mental Health

My Story

Hi,

My name is Sinéad, and I’ve been a mental health advocate for young people for just over a year now. Myself and the Ironmind team have decided to take on a challenge to raise money for stem4. We have challenged ourselves to row continuously for 24 hours and reach a distance of 240km, starting at 6pm on 24th June 2022

Why:

The main reason I'm so determined to raise money for stem4 is because my cousin was diagnosed with Anxiety, OCD and Psychosis last year. She is such an incredible and intelligent young lady who has dealt with her struggles longer than she needed too, simply because the support for young people isn't there; especially due to the pandemic and schools being closed - there just wasn't a route to help her instantly. Fortunately we were in a position to get her professional help, but this isn't the case for all young people. They depend on charities and helplines for support and advice so it's our job to give them a little help so the support can continue for other young people. Stem4 will massively benefit from our support and donations so myself and the IronMind team are choosing to row a whopping 200km in order to raise money for this incredibly selfless charity.

It is proven that 60% of young peoples mental health is diagnosed too late, let's help reduce that number and give the support they need. The support system for young people is horrendous, there simply isn’t any money for them to apply support or resources. It's important that young people have someone who understands what they are going through, it’s important they have someone to talk to, unload their emotions and have someone who’s going to fight with them every step of the way. So that’s my why.

Rowing for 24 hours will be uncomfortable, exhausting and will require a certain mindset to get to the end of it. This may just about scratch the surface of how people feel who are dealing with mental illnesses. We can’t wait to take this on!

Please follow us on our journey and any little encouragement would be very much appreciated. Thank you so much !
